WHAT WE'RE DOING

Additional FARM events are available on the Minnesota Historical Society's site. Please check the MHS site for regularly scheduled programming at the farm!

Board Meetings:  Every First Thursday, 7 p.m.

These meetings are open to ALL interested Friends and friends!

2007 Summer Music Series:  Select Thursdays during the summer, 7 p.m.

Watch for outstanding Minnesota musicians performing on the Front Porch of the Farmhouse.  Bring a lawnchair or blanket and bring a neighbor to gather as a community just like Oliver and Lucy Kelley did!

Activity Groups:  It's all about AG-culture!

We've organized into Activity Groups focused on the different aspects of Friends work: Legislative, Marketing, Visitor Experience, Program Support, Special Events, Membership, Fundraising, and Executive.  You do not have to be on the Board to participate!  These groups meet periodically to plan and execute the goals of the Friends.  Please consider joining in!  Contact any of the Board members for more information.  Also, watch the newsletter for additional opportunities for you to share your talents and time.

WHAT WE'VE DONE

Work Day at the Farm:  Saturday March 17, 9am to 5pm with the March Friends Meeting.
Bring a dish to share for the potluck lunch and stay for the Friends meeting.  Lots of work projects are available.

February 22 History Day Rally at the Capitol
We will be gathering at the Farm and carpooling to the Capitol.  Call the Farm for details.

Kelley Farm Fest - Saturday, Sept 2, 2006
This past spring the Friends did not hold what has unfortunately been an annual event. The "Save the Farm Day" event was not held for various reasons, some having to do with the state of the Farm's funding from the MHS being more stable, but even more important was that the Farm was actually open to the public during weekends in May.  This made it difficult to produce the kind of event that we have done in the past:  free admission but hit 'em up for donations.

It has taken us a while to adjust to the new realities, but we're ready to put together what we hope will be a fitting celebration of our vibrant program, vital mission and proud heritage.  We will be celebrating the Kelley Farm on the Saturday before Labor Day: September 2.  The Friends will present a Silent Auction, Pancake Breakfast, Hot Dog Lunch,

The Friends of the Kelley Farm's 2006 Calendar

The Friends of the Kelley Farm present a 2006 Calendar featuring photos from all seasons and includes the 2006 Schedule of Events.  You're going to want to get a few of these!

Order a calendar or two for yourself and also give them to family, friends and anyone you think would enjoy a quality calendar highlighting our Minnesota heritage of innovation and societal advancement!

2005 Schedule of Events
The 2005 schedule featured many family activities to experience life on the farm.

2005 Summer Music Series
Five concerts at the Farm.  Outstanding regional groups performed on the Porch of the farmhouse.  This was very successful and will be continued as part of MHS's regular programming in 2006!

Preservation Day 2005
Saturday, May 21, 2005.  This was another excellent opportunity to introduce community members to the Farm and its programs.  It was also a celebration of our perseverity - was it equal to what they had to go through in the 1860s to keep a farm going?

Winter '04-'05 Schedule of Events

The winter schedule featured many family activities to experience life on the farm in the winter.  The regular summer staff was not on hand, so Anne and Bob appreciated the Friends volunteers that helped with the many activities.  We learned a lot about life on the farm in the winter!

Anoka Halloween Parade, Saturday, October 30, 2004
Two miles in the cold and rain!  Pulling a buggy by hand, we highlighted our plight with a big banner that read "SOLD THE HORSE TO SAVE THE FARM!"  We handed out brochures and winter schedules.

Sherburne County Fair Parade, Friday July 17, 2004
Two miles and hundreds of happy kids!  Walking along with a horse-drawn buggy, we handed out brochures, event schedules and discount coupons.  That's good exposure!  If we do the Anoka parade, consider joining us!

Kelley Farm Preservation Day, Saturday May 22, 2004
Despite a cold and damp day, we all had a warm feeling when we left! Thanks to all those who volunteered, visited, donated, performed, danced, purchased, ate, cleaned up, and whatever else we did that day to support the Farm!

Barn Dance
After the Kelley Farm Day activities on May 22, we had some hand-clappin', foot-stompin', skirt-swishin', reelin', schottischin', doh-si-dohin' FUN!
